Washington residents love movies. Horror flicks in particular.
Online casino guide Japan-101 analyzed search volume data for multiple phrases, terms and queries related to movies and movie genres, concluding that “Washington is one of the states most obsessed with movies.”
Perhaps it’s no accident that horror movies ranked No. 1. Numerous popular horror movies have been filmed here. A few of our favorites are The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (filmed in Tacoma); The Ring (Fidalgo and Whidbey islands); Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (Snohomish High School and Highland Middle School); and The Deliberate Stranger, a movie about American serial killer Ted Bundy.
Besides horror, Washingtonians also have an interest in science fiction. All told, state residents searched more than 1,100 times for movies per 100,000 people during the past year.
