Former Mayor Greg Nickels had it right: Seattle is “a city of neighborhoods.” In other words, a distinctive sense of community pride permeates the culture here. Residents have an unwavering allegiance to the places they live.
Seattle’s neighborhoods — suburbs included — are as varied as the landscapes that surround them. Each has its own character and charm. The city’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity fuels that sense of belonging, and fosters a shared responsibility for the well-being and growth of each community.
In this issue, Seattle magazine examines nine neighborhoods in the midst of massive transformation, from unincorporated White Center to bustling Bothell. They aren’t the “best.” One isn’t necessarily better than another.
We celebrate our robust local identity by delving into the intricate tapestry of these rapidly evolving areas.
